Paranormal stuff: is it a cultural thing? Rant ahead

paranormal stuff is common where my family is from it's almost expected.

I'm going to relate an experience I had with a college professor who taught psychology, I met him at a pentacostal meeting 16 or so year ago, we spent time hiking and we talked and he informed me about his past as a college professor. Seems he lost his credentials by writing a bad paper about his experience in Brazil with some voodoo priests. Anyway we got into some deep discussions about psychedelic drugs, enlightenment, he told me about some of his work with sensory deprivation on prisoners, and psychosomatic healing. He said that he took a bunch of equipment(EEGs and whatnot)to examine these people during certain experiments. Anyway long story short he claims these people alter him and his equipment with their powers.

I guess that was why he was at the meetings it seems that these people caused his kundalini to be come awakened and he was seeking some relief from it(put it back to sleep).

I don't think any one posting on this thread is trying to convince anybody of anything, just talking about a subject that some have negative feelings about. But you are right about this:

All the people who "have" paranormal experience seem to want them and be proud that they have them which makes me question whether they really did.

I think yes wanting them can make one color what really happened. That's one reason I kind of shy away from relating much on the subject. Yes I wanted something like that to happen, and I found myself coloring the happenings and some of the things I'm still trying to find the significance. I'm trying not to paint with such a broad brush over all these reports of the supernatural, I don't think every single person is a fraud and it must be some trick.

What makes JDubs so gullible?

i think that jdubs are so gullible because they can't handle reality and are fully invested in a future paradise earth where there will be no problems.

i hope they can cope with the 1,000 reign of jesus that will have a ton of more problems than what they have now.. they may be gullible also because they like not having to think.

they are told what clothes to wear, what to eat, what type of movies they can see, where to go on vacation, what type of car to drive, what to answer when answering during the watchtower study, what is permissible sex for a married couple, etc..

I think wanting to believe is a major factor, and then fear of being disfellowshipped keeps them in the gullible stage afterward.

First they dangle the carrot(paradise,everlasting life, perfect health, and on and on0. Then get them to commit to a Watchtower/bible/indoctrination study, keep inviting them to meeting where peer pressure, and love bombing will drag them further into the WT mind control system and in order to keep them useful/busy give them lots of things to do and threaten subtly with DFing if they stop believing.

it turns out that almost everything we thought we knew about them is wrong.

they weren't hunched, grunting, knuckle-dragging ape-men at all.

What really happened around 1918 when WT leaders were imprisoned?

i had never thought about this until just now when i saw that nathan natas posted some early tract from rutherford, and it made me think back to what little i could remember of the history i was taught.

i now know that in most cases the dubs will spin stories in their favor.

so i'm now assuming i was told some fictitious story about what happened when the leaders were thrown in prison and things looked bleak for the cult way back when.

I think it was because he was drinking heavily that Knorr and Franz were happy that he was no longer at New York but far away in some nice house on the opposite coast where the weather is good practically all year. Rutherford was also know for his tirades I'm sure many were glad to see him go but would never put that in print. That way he'd would open his home for all the return princes to rule the earth so they would have a nice place to stay before the hostile take over of the earth by Jehoower.

The scepter of disfellowshipment cannot be applied to young ones who are not baptized which means they can leave the greedy clutches of the Watchtower Corporation and still have a decent communication with mom and pop and some of their friends at the KH.

The younger they can get them baptized the longer they can exploit them in to corporation servitude with the threat of disfellowshipping for noncompliance to corporation directives. The Governing Body definitely have a child abusing mentality which is getting harder and harder to hide. They are right up there with the catholic churches abuse of choir boys.

I think it's a matter of degrees. While not to the same degrees as Hitler, Stalin, and other mass murderers though out history. They are definitely guilty of crimes against humanity, for how many thousands have died not getting proper medical treatment because their teaching on using blood to save one's life.

Enlightenment, Will It Be A Rather Common Experience In The Future?

it has been said by some that an enlightened being came/happened once every 500 years, but now they seem to be popping up all over the place.. the buddha had to meditate like hell, he even starved himself to attain it.

monks spend many years doing some are successful some are not.. i think with science looking into these nirvana states of mind that they will figure out a way to end suffering for the human species which will usher in a whole different way of life with higher intelligence running things.

from my understanding of enlightenment it is a sort of rewiring of the brain where the signals go up pleasure side of the amygdala where as painful emotions and sensations go up the other side.
